The who behind Flow State:

Nicole Moran

Hey I’m Nicole!

Full time ocean lover and owner of Flow State Surf School. Growing up in the small town of Beachport, South Australia, I’ve always had a passion for the ocean and loved being in and around water.

I learnt to surf when I was 18 during the Covid pandemic and instantly fell in love with the feeling of riding waves and progressing my skills in the water. I moved to Adelaide full time in 2020 to study Sport, Health & Physical Activity and had the opportunity to work with various Surf Schools and Outdoor Education companies.

In 2023, I made the move back home and started up Flow State Surf School. My goal is to provide an inclusive and positive space for people to learn how to surf. To me, it’s more than just about standing up on a board, it’s about learning new skills, connecting with others and the ocean and sharing the stoke that surfing brings.

What is Flow State?

You may have experienced a flow state at some point — that sense of fluidity between your body and mind, where you are totally absorbed by and deeply focused on something, beyond the point of distraction. Time feels like it has slowed down. Your senses are heightened. You are at one with the task at hand, as action and awareness sync to create an effortless momentum. Some people describe this feeling as being “in the zone.” This is the flow state and it’s accessible to everyone, whether you’re engaged in a physical activity, a creative pursuit, or even a simple day-to-day task (headspace 2023). At Flow State Surf School we aim to incorporate activities and mindfullness strategies that allow you to unlock this state of mind.
